About this book
This is Bulletin 240 of the United States National Museum, from the Museum of History and Technology in Washington, D.C., 1966. It gathers Papers 34 to 44 on science and technology under the heading Contributions from the Museum of History and Technology. One paper concerns an early gasoline automobile: a patchwork engine with no governor, poor ignition and a flywheel too light, then a new engine that Frank drew up plans for, with patterns made by Charles Marshall.
Another paper reproduces a report by commissioners named Mitchel, Morris and Rutgers on a vessel, with an inventory of her furniture and effects and an account of the timber and metals in her fabric. A paper on pendulums for measuring gravity mentions the Potsdam determination by Kühnen and Furtwängler and Charles S. Peirce.
