About this book
Solomon and Solomonic Literature discusses the varied myths and legends concerning Solomon in Palestine, Abyssinia, Arabia, Persia, India, and Europe, calling for comparative study. The opening chapter says that external and historical data are insufficient to prove certainly that an individual Solomon ever existed. The writer nevertheless believes that students of the ancient literature will recognise that a great personality known under that name did exist.
The chapter headed The Judgment of Solomon says that mythical details can only be dealt with incidentally in the present essay. The discussion of European Folklore says that Solomon and Asmodeus, the latter better known as Mephistopheles, have long been blended.
