About this book
Stories of the Universe: Animal Life is by B. Lindsay and is marked as having forty-seven illustrations. The preface says the majority of the diagrams were prepared by Miss E. C. Abbott, and that the sketches were made from specimens in the South Kensington Museum of Natural History. The text says the navvy will probably be of a fresh complexion while the clerk will be pale, and that all these differences are due to the fact that their bodies have adapted themselves to circumstances.
The text says many of the Siphonostomatous molluscs are surprisingly active and strong, so that they are well fitted for a predatory existence. A figure caption shows half shells of the Common Venus, several of them perforated by carnivorous molluscs, from South Shields, England. The text describes sections being mounted in order on slides, steps being taken to melt away the wax from the sections, and the sections being covered with Canada Balsam surmounted by a glass cover slip.
