About this book

Studies in the Poetry of Italy, Part I, Roman, is by Frank Justus Miller. The preface says the writer has chosen to present to his readers the field of poetry only, and selected certain important and representative phases of poetry, namely, the dramatic, satiric, and epic. The text shows Cassandra crying out at sight of her brother: Here it is; here, the torch, wrapped in fire and blood. The text gives a passage from the Argonautæ of Accius that describes the first ship, Argo, as she goes plowing through the sea.

The text says, returning to an original proposition, that no one is content with his lot, but is constantly trying to surpass his fellows. The text includes the lines Let there be no amity between our peoples, and Be our shores to shores opposed, our waves to waves, and arms to arms.
