Bostrom looks at possible routes to superintelligence, what its goals might be and why it could be hard to control. He argues that a superintelligent system pursuing the wrong objective could be very dangerous, and he discusses ways of making sure such systems act in humanity's interest. The book has strongly influenced the debate on the safety of artificial intelligence.
