About this book
Ten Thousand a-Year, Volume 1, is by Samuel Warren. The dedication inscribes the volumes to Emily as a slight memorial of a father's affection for an only daughter. The text says Mr. Titmouse became more and more convinced of a great practical truth, that the only real distinction between mankind was that effected by money. Titmouse thought, would to Heaven that any one tailor would patronize him as half a dozen had patronized the Count.
The text describes a hall that is large and lofty, with a floor of polished oak almost wholly covered with thick matting and walls wainscoted all round with black oak. The text calls the figures quaint and says that if they resembled the ancestors of the Aubrey family, those ancestors must have been singular and startling persons. The Attorney-General says they will prove, he supposes, the later steps of the pedigree, when Stephen Dreddlington married at a distance from his native county.
