The Bābur-nāma in English (Memoirs of Bābur)

The Baburnama is the personal memoir of Babur, the Central Asian prince who founded the Mughal empire in India. Written in Chagatai Turkish across the years 1494 to 1530, it is one of the first true autobiographies in Islamic literature. Babur writes with startling frankness about his battles and defeats, his friendships, the wine parties he later regretted, and the gardens, fruits, and animals of every land he crossed. He describes losing his ancestral kingdom of Ferghana, seizing Kabul, and finally winning northern India at the battle of Panipat in 1526. This free PDF and EPUB offers Annette Beveridge’s full English translation, a vivid eyewitness account of a world in the making.
