About this book

The Blockade Runners is a work by Jules Verne. The ship called the Dolphin is launched into the Clyde, and the spectators clap their hands. Nobody can tell whether the Dolphin was a privateer, a transport ship, or an addition to the Federal marine. The best informed, at least those who pretended to be so, agree that the steamer was going to take part in the terrible war ravaging the United States of America.

Miss Jenny argues vigorously about the civil war in the United States, and James Playfair finds it difficult to answer her. A sailor on the forecastle cries out, and a large frigate is seen making towards the pass in order to obstruct the passage of the Dolphin.
