The Cenci

The Cenci is one of the Celebrated Crimes by Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870), his series of true-crime histories drawn from the dark annals of Europe. It retells the notorious sixteenth-century Roman case of Beatrice Cenci, who with her family was executed for the murder of her brutal father, a story that also drew Shelley and Stendhal.
