The Twin Lieutenants is a tale by Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870), the French novelist whose Three Musketeers and Count of Monte Cristo made him one of the most widely read authors in history. Like much of Dumas’s enormous output, it blends history, adventure, and romance in his swift, theatrical manner. Dumas produced his vast body of work with a team of collaborators, but the storytelling energy was his own. The piece is a sample of the prolific French master.
