About this book
The Collector's Handbook to Keramics of the Renaissance and Modern Periods is by William Chaffers. The opening pages name the complete work from which the handbook is extracted as The Keramic Gallery by William Chaffers, containing several hundred illustrations, some in colour, of rare, curious, and choice examples of Pottery and Porcelain.
The entry for Thuringia says that in the middle of the 18th century a number of small porcelain factories sprang up in this district. A passage on Satsuma ware describes delicate cups and saucers, thin as paper, frequently seen covered on the outside with a casing of bamboo threads woven together, and says all of these are produced now, as they were in ancient times, at Imari, in the province of Hizen.
