The Crown of Thorns: A Token for the Sorrowing is a book by E. H. Chapin. The preface says that one of the discourses in the volume, The Mission of Little Children, was written just after the death of a dear son and was published in pamphlet form. The preface says the little volume is tendered to the sorrowing with the author’s sympathy and affection.

The text says that our post is not the Mount of Vision, but the Field of Labor. The text says there is in this world nothing so great and solemn as the struggles of the solitary soul in its researches after the truth, in its endeavors to obey the right. The text says that we will toil in our lot while God pleases, and when he summons us we will calmly depart.
