About this book

Better known now for his fairy tales, MacDonald began and ended his life as a poet, and this gathering brings together the verse he wrote across four decades of ministry, grief, and faith. At its heart is A Book of Strife in the Form of the Diary of an Old Soul, a sequence of short daily poems in which an aging believer speaks plainly to God about doubt, longing, and the wish to see clearly. There are hymns, sonnets, and longer meditations besides, all carrying the same quiet honesty that made his prose so beloved. George MacDonald

George MacDonald was a Scottish author, poet and Congregational minister. He became a pioneering figure in the field of modern fantasy literature and the mentor of fellow-writer Lewis Carroll. In addition to his fairy tales, MacDonald wrote several works of Christian theology, including several collections of sermons.
