About this book

The Seagrave children fight with all their might, described as having gone quite mad with the happiness of companionship while sparrows attend to nesting. Naïda's curls mingle with the grass several times before Geraldine realizes that her new companion is entirely at her mercy. Geraldine declares the contest ended without a victory and asks whether her companion will love her.

The boys are dirty and dishevelled, with grime and perspiration streaking their faces. Geraldine walks between the boys with an arm around Naïda's waist and tells them to stop fighting and obtain food for four. Rosalie explains that excitement and surprise at a creature's speed prevented her from thinking of pulling the trigger.
