The Discovery of Yellowstone Park is the journal of Nathaniel Pitt Langford (1832-1911), a member of the 1870 Washburn expedition that explored the Yellowstone country and helped win its creation as the world’s first national park in 1872. Langford became the park’s first superintendent, and his nickname National Park Langford fit his initials. The diary records the geysers, canyons, and wonders that astonished the explorers. It is a foundational document of the national-park idea. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
