About this book
A prelude of mottoes includes the line Now they that like it may: the rest may chuse. Among others, the chapter headings include Chapter X, One Who Was Not So Wise as His Friends Could Have Wished, and Yet Quite as Happy as If He Had Been Wiser, and Chapter XIII, A Doubt Concerning School Books, Which Will Be Deemed Heretical. A passage says the speaker is now replying to the question proposed in the third chapter, Who was the Doctor?, and that it behoved him to explain in what manner so rare a character as Dr. Dove's was formed.
A passage on bell names says the Bishop of Chalons recently baptized a peal and called it a happy and holy family in a discourse he delivered upon the occasion. A passage says the first of these was called Marie, and the Duke and Duchess of Danderville (so the newspapers give this name) stood sponsors.
