About this book
The Etiquette of Engagement and Marriage describes manners and customs of courtship and marriage, including details of the wedding ceremony and its arrangements. The discussion of courtship says that love may precede it, coincide with it or follow it, while courtship may sometimes precede a purely business transaction. The account of intellectual courtship suggests that a dry mathematical problem may serve a lover as well as flowers or a verse of poetry.
The section on athletic comradeship allows that an outdoor couple may have hearts as tender and love as true as an artistic couple. The advice on a second marriage calls it unfair for a man to remarry without previously informing adult children who may still live with him.
