About this book
The Fabric of Civilization is A Short Survey of the Cotton Industry in the United States from Guaranty Trust Company of New York. The opening says the cotton industry touches the lives of the vast majority of the peoples of the earth. The survey says it aims to give, in brief compass, such general facts concerning the industry in the United States as may enable the reader quickly to familiarize himself with its broader outlines.
The text says there are many other short vegetable fibers, but cotton is the only one which can profitably be spun into thread. The twist, the text says, makes the threads kink together when they are spun, and it is this kink which makes for strength and durability. The contents list names, among others, The Importance and Power of Cotton and Where Cotton is Grown and Spun.
