About this book
Seven hungry fire-eaters arrive at Noodle's door on a winter night, and his welcome soon costs him far more than a meal. Dismissed as a fool by his learned parents, he gives his strange guests everything he can and receives a ring that changes the taste of bread and water. This encounter opens The Bound Princess, a tale in six parts within Laurence Housman's collection of fairy stories. Noodle's next meeting brings him to a farm where a magical plough makes crops grow through winter and draws workers into bondage.
Elsewhere, a king's son flees a queen who searches for him through a magic crystal. Birds, fishes and a fox shelter and feed him as her messengers pursue him. These stories make generosity, power and freedom tangible through enchanted objects and speaking creatures.
