The First Sir Percy
A sequel to The Laughing Cavalier, published in 1920, this swashbuckler returns to seventeenth-century Holland and the soldier of fortune known as Diogenes, the ancestor Orczy invented for her Scarlet Pimpernel. Now married and settled, he is drawn back into danger when political conspiracy threatens the young Dutch republic and the people close to him. Sword fights, disguises, and hair’s-breadth escapes carry the story much as they do the French Revolution novels, only against the canals and merchant houses of the Low Countries. It works as a standalone adventure as well as a chapter in Orczy’s long family legend. Free PDF and EPUB edition available here.
