About this book
The Girl Wanted, A Book of Friendly Thoughts, is by Nixon Waterman. The dedication verse speaks of the girl wanted who, by her beautiful ways, shall brighten and gladden Life's wonderful days.
The preface says the volume came about through the publication of the author's work entitled Boy Wanted, and through many requests for a similar companion volume for girls. The text says surely it will not require a great deal of effort to live the next sixty seconds as they should be lived. A quotation from Emerson says one of the illusions is that the present hour is not the critical, decisive hour, and urges writing on the heart that every day is the best day in the whole year. A saying credited to Seneca says that, though sorrow must come, it will be time enough to grieve when it comes, and meanwhile one should hope for better things.
