About this book
The Goslings: A Study of the American Schools is by Upton Sinclair. The text says the Young Workers' League hired a hall, and the three students spent a good part of their summer vacation preparing for the contest. The text says Principal Dunn of the Polytechnic High School informed the one high school student that he must not take part in the affair.
The first-person account says that, being interested in the cause of free speech, the writer went to see Mr. Robert Odell, attorney and president of the school board. The text describes a drafted amendment to the charter of the N. E. A., known as Section 12, providing that it might be organized as a delegate body and governed by a representative assembly. The text says the gang leaders spent much time in our national capital, getting a charter amendment passed by Congress and signed by the President.
