Two fishermen exploring the wild west of Ireland discover the ruins of a strange circular house and, within it, a battered journal. Its author, a recluse who lived there with his sister, recorded encounters with monstrous swine-creatures that clawed up from a nearby chasm, along with vast visions that swept him across time to the death of the solar system itself. Hodgson blends visceral horror with an eerie sense of scale, prefiguring the cosmic dread later associated with Lovecraft, who admired the book. About the Author
William Hope Hodgson (1877-1918) was an English author of horror and fantastic fiction who drew on years at sea. His visionary works, including The House on the Borderland and The Night Land, are cornerstones of cosmic horror.
