The Jade God
Alan Sullivan’s 1924 mystery settles its unease into an old English house. When Derrick and his sister Edith move into Beech Lodge with their watchful housemaid Perkins, they inherit more than the property. An unsolved murder shadows the place, and a small carved jade idol seems to sit at the heart of it. Sullivan lays out his puzzle patiently, letting suspicion drift among the household while the reader gathers clues alongside the characters. It is a solid entry from the golden age of detective fiction, more interested in atmosphere and steady deduction than in shocks. Readers who enjoy a quiet, well-plotted whodunit will find it satisfying. The novel is available here as a free PDF and EPUB.
