About this book
The Jewish Religion by M. Friedländer is a second edition, revised and enlarged, with a London imprint of 1900. In the preface the author says he does not claim much originality and wishes to set out the religious principles he received from his parents and the teachers of Israel, so that his brethren may share the blessing he has found in them.
In one passage Maimonides is quoted from the seventeenth chapter of the Second Book of The Guide, on creation and on the limits of reasoning from a thing's present properties. Another passage explains the Kaddish, the Kedushah and the Priests' Blessing within prayer. A further passage describes the Wisdom of Jesus, son of Sirach, as proverbs, maxims and moral lessons collected by Joshua (Jesus), son of Sirach of Jerusalem.
