About this book
The Last Spike, and Other Railroad Stories is a volume named as the work of Cy Warman. The contents list names, among others, chapters called The Belle of Athabasca, Pathfinding in the Northwest, The Curé's Christmas Gift, The Mysterious Signal and Chasing the White Mail. Under the heading The Last Spike, one speaker asks whether there is nothing against him but his poverty, and another speaker answers with his general appearance.
The text says that after untold hardships, privation, and youth-destroying labor, men had located a piece of road, and that a well-groomed son of a politician would come up from the Capital to condemn it all as a Government expert. Warriors hiding in the crags wait until Bradford goes out alone to try to shoot a deer. Henry knew his book well and knew that the railroad needed his service, and one of the rules of the road said a man must be twenty-one years old before he could handle a locomotive.
