About this book

Old Indian Days by Charles A. Eastman (Ohiyesa) is dedicated to the author's daughters, Dora, Irene, Virginia, Eleanor, and Florence, with stories of the Old Indian Life and especially of the Courageous and Womanly Indian Woman. The contents divide the book into Part One, The Warrior, with The Love of Antelope and The Madness of Bald Eagle, and Part Two, The Woman, with Winona, the Woman-Child, and The War Maiden. The story The Love of Antelope has a motionless and solitary figure appear upon a hanging precipice atop of the Eagle Scout Butte, and the people in the camp below saw him, but none looked at him long.

Wezee, the father of Antelope, was receiving congratulations throughout the afternoon, and many of the old men came to his lodge to smoke with him. Weeko came with her beautiful hair cut short in mourning, for her husband had fallen in the fight and she supposed her twin boys to have been taken captive by the Crows.
