About this book
The Man from Snowy River and Other Verses is a collection of poems by A. B. Paterson, known as the Banjo. This is the Second Edition, with a preface by Rolf Boldrewood. A note says that in 1892 Paterson and Henry Lawson were writing for the Sydney Bulletin, that Lawson suggested a duel of poetry, and that "In Defence of the Bush" was one of Paterson's replies.
The contents list titles such as "A Bush Christening", "How the Favourite Beat Us", "Shearing at Castlereagh", "Black Swans", "Come-by-Chance" and "Jim Carew". The title poem opens with movement at the station after word passes round that the colt from old Regret has got away. In another poem two brothers named Devine ride fifty miles to their father's hut and are back by nightfall, telling the super. that their father is not exactly dead and that they came back to tackle the ewes.
