A Book for Kids is by C J Dennis, with the year 1921 and a reissue as Roundabout in 1935. A verse has a very charming gentleman, as old as old could be, who says to read your books, and heed your books, and put your books away. Lines headed The Swagman describe a man who was old and spare, with bushy whiskers, boots broken at the toe and a swag upon his back.
A white horse tells Neville he is one of the frightened ones, and that it has been wasting its time. Lines about being a sailor have the speaker imagine learning to box the compass, and to reef and tack and luff, yet say they wouldn't be a sailor if the sea was very rough.
