About this book
The preface says that the author has followed a true sequence of events practically in all particulars, apart from the character of the Tenderfoot. The preface calls the Tenderfoot an embodiment of many tenderfeet, whose actions all occurred at some time in the author's experience. The explanation says that the Tenderfoot cannot be identified with the third member of the party on the actual trip.
The practical advice requires the ability to pare a hoof, fit a shoe cold and nail the shoe in place. The equipment discussion says that a traveller must be able to pack a horse well and know four or five of the most essential pack hitches. The advice calls knowledge of deer habits and the ability to catch trout with fair certainty almost a necessity far from supplies.
