The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket is Edgar Allan Poe's only complete novel, published in 1838. It tells of a young man who stows away aboard a whaling ship and is plunged into a nightmare of mutiny, shipwreck, starvation, and horror on the open sea, before being carried far south into the unknown waters and islands near the Antarctic. Blending the realism of a sea voyage with growing strangeness and dread, the story builds to one of the most famous and mysterious endings in American literature.
