About this book

The Outlaw of Torn is an unusual historical adventure by Edgar Rice Burroughs, published in 1914 and set in thirteenth-century England. Stolen as a child from the royal court in revenge against the king, Norman of Torn is raised in secret to be a fearsome swordsman and the scourge of the nobility, leading a band of outlaws who plunder the great lords while protecting the common people. As civil war divides the land, the mystery of his true birth draws toward its revelation, and his love for a highborn lady tests his outlaw's oath. It is Burroughs's spirited answer to the tradition of Robin Hood and Ivanhoe.

Edgar Rice Burroughs was an American writer, recognized for his prolific output in the adventure, science fiction, and fantasy genres. Best known for creating the characters Tarzan and John Carter, he also wrote the Pellucidar series, the Amtor series, and the Caspak trilogy.
