Joanne Dahme’s historical fiction work “The Plague” is set in 1348, during the height of the Black Death. Nell, the main character, is picked to play Princess Joan’s double because of her striking likeness. Nell’s life, however, drastically changes when the King’s plan for the princess to marry the Prince of Castile is thwarted by the epidemic.
To trick Prince Pedro into marrying Nell, the Black Prince plots to turn her into a princess. Nell strives to get back to the King, but she has to avoid the Black Prince and the epidemic with the help of an oddball group of pals.
