About this book
The Poetical Works of Thomas Campbell presents poetry reprinted from early editions, accompanied by a memoir and explanatory notes. The contents list The Pleasures of Hope, Gertrude of Wyoming and a group of miscellaneous poems that includes Battle of the Baltic. The contents identify Theodric as a domestic tale among the works gathered in the volume. A biographical account says many of Campbell’s lines have become proverbs and gives familiar examples of those lines.
A wounded speaker names himself Kinghorn and identifies his foe as the Ritter Bann. A knight embraces his child, laughing and weeping and pressing the little one with kisses.
