About this book

The Recollections of Alexis de Tocqueville is by Alexis de Tocqueville, and the preface says he made his entrance in political life in 1839. The preface adds that at the outbreak of the Revolution of February he was in the prime of his age and in the maturity of his talent.

The account says that a number of friends in Parliament met together in October 1847, to decide upon the policy to be adopted during the ensuing session, and that it was agreed to issue a programme in the form of a manifesto. The account describes wandering through little streets covered with blood from the recent combats, with the great barricade of the Rue Rambuteau not yet taken. A speaker asks whether the Bonapartist movement, aided and precipitated by the listeners, will cease, with nearly a year between now and the next elections.
