About this book
The Record of a Quaker Conscience, Cyrus Pringle's Diary is credited to Cyrus G. Pringle. The opening pages list an introduction by Rufus M. Jones and give February, 1918 as the publication date. The text says the Quakers, ever since their origin in the period of the English Commonwealth, have always guarded the sanctuary domain within the soul as the most sacred possession a man can have. Quakers feel as a people that they cannot fight or take any part in military operations, a situation that confronts them whenever their country engages in war.
A narrator writes that the Major must have interposed, demonstrating his kindness by his resolution that the group should occupy and enjoy the pleasanter quarters of the hospital. A narrator says I.N. has just called again, informing the group in joy that they are free. The Secretary yielded, the order was given, and the group were released.
