About this book
George Muller describes a ministry in Bristol built around prayer and the care of children without parents. His account follows the establishment of orphan homes and the practical demands of supporting their residents. In his preface, he explains that he hopes his experiences will encourage other Christians, particularly those with little money, to trust God with their daily needs.
Edited and condensed by H. Lincoln Wayland, this 1861 volume draws on Muller's personal narrative and annual reports. The entries connect religious conviction with food, gifts, and the responsibility of providing for more than a hundred people. In the middle passage, Muller explains his refusal to publicize shortages as a way of obtaining contributions. He also recounts praying about a possible gift while avoiding pressure that might leave its donor with regrets. Readers interested in Christian autobiography and the history of orphan care will find an account of charitable work told through the author's understanding of answered prayer.
