About this book
The Salem Belle, with the subtitle A Tale of 1692, is by Ebenezer Wheelwright. The introduction says the following letter addressed to the author will explain the circumstances which led to the publication of this little work. The letter writer sends a manuscript which contains all the material circumstances of a remarkable legend, founded on the singular events of 1692. Lyford tells Walter that Mary Graham is a sincere Christian.
Miss Graham is visited by all her friends on her arrival at Boston. The text says the fashionable society of Boston was at that time professedly religious. Harris says, "it is a great thing to have a good conscience!" and the reply is that it is a better thing, so far as safety is concerned, to have nimble feet.
