About this book

This collection gathers the short fiction of Arthur Machen, the Welsh master of weird and supernatural tales. Here are the stories that made his name and haunted a century of readers, among them The Great God Pan, in which a reckless experiment tears the veil between our world and another, and The White People, a girl's diary that drifts by slow degrees into unspeakable enchantment. Machen writes with a rare gift for suggestion, hinting at ancient evils and hidden beauties beneath the quiet surface of London streets and lonely Welsh valleys, and leaving the worst and the most wonderful things half-seen. For lovers of horror and the strange, this is essential reading. This free PDF and EPUB presents the collected short fiction.
