About this book

Robert E. Howard poured out an astonishing amount of fiction in his short life, and the stories collected here show the range beyond his most famous barbarian. A Texan writing for the pulp magazines of the 1920s and 1930s, Howard moved easily between grim historical adventure, supernatural horror, boxing yarns, and the muscular fantasy he all but invented. His prose hits hard and fast, driven by physical action and a brooding sense of doom, whether the setting is a frozen northern battlefield, a haunted house, or an ancient kingdom. He was a mainstay of Weird Tales and a lasting influence on the fantasy and horror writers who came after him.
