About this book
A child sets out to find the crown and kingdom promised by an angel, meeting busy strangers and people who need help along the way. Laura Elizabeth Howe Richards uses this simple situation to open a collection of short fables about kindness, responsibility and the meaning of reward. Other figures include a grumbling saint whose complaints accompany generous acts, and Love, who leaves a small house that another visitor tends.
The stories turn ordinary actions into moral tests: carrying a burden, sharing a game or noticing someone in distress. In one piece, a Play Angel helps children move beyond a disagreement over whose game to choose. Angels and personified qualities give the collection a spiritual setting, while brief scenes and direct conversations keep its lessons close to daily life. Readers interested in moral storytelling will find examples of how a small choice can change a relationship.
