Colleen French’s fascinating summer fiction, “The Summer Daughter,” is set on Albany Beach, Delaware. The protagonist of the tale is Natalie Sullivan, an elderly woman facing the end of her reproductive years and the strain of her husband’s recently purchased Irish bar. Natalie starts to question if Bella could be the daughter she put up for adoption in college after her daughter McKenzie encounters Bella, an adopted girl who looks a lot like McKenzie. Natalie has to negotiate the difficulties of her past, present, and possibly future as she gets to know Bella better.
