The narrative picks up 15 years later and is told from the viewpoints of three different women: Aunt Lydia, a character from the first book, and two new characters, Agnes and Daisy, who reside in Gilead and Canada, respectively.

The book received critical acclaim, sharing the 2019 Booker Prize with Bernardine Evaristo’s “Girl, Woman, Other”. It was also the top pick in the ‘Best Fiction’ category of the Goodreads Choice Awards 2019.
