About this book
The Thirteenth Hussars in the Great War, by H. Mortimer Durand, is dedicated to the officers, non-commissioned officers and men of the regiment who died during the war. The discussion of cavalry considers services beyond the battlefield and presents military writers' usual distinction between preparations and manoeuvres leading up to battle and the operations of battle itself. Military operations leading up to battle are described as strategy, while operations after opposed armies have actually come into touch are described as tactics.
The personal account describes a wounded Corporal Taylor waiting for the Field Ambulance and warning the narrator to move away to the right. The narrator recalls forgetting a rifle, turning to retrieve the weapon, and being told by a sergeant to go on and leave it behind.
