The Thirty Years War, Volume 03, by Friedrich Schiller, carries the heading History of the Thirty Years' War in Germany, Book III. The text says the glorious battle of Leipzig effected a great change in the conduct of Gustavus Adolphus, as well as in the opinion which both friends and foes entertained of him. Munich itself is said to have opened its gates to the invincible monarch.

Wallenstein required 15,000 men from the king, and undertook, with these and the troops he himself engaged to raise, to conquer Bohemia and Moravia, to surprise Vienna, and drive his master, the Emperor, before him into Italy. One passage notes that history says nothing of prisoners, a further proof of the animosity of the combatants, who neither gave nor took quarter. Pappenheim is said to have died the next day of his wounds at Leipzig, an irreparable loss to the imperial army.
