About this book
The Tuberculosis Nurse: Her Function and Her Qualifications is by Ellen N. La Motte, R.N., and is described as a handbook for practical workers in the tuberculosis campaign. The introduction says that to tuberculosis, more than to any other infectious disease, the parable of the seed and the soil is strictly applicable, and that without the tubercle bacillus there can be no tuberculosis. The text says there are certain regulations which all physicians are supposed to comply with, and that these laws require, first, that all cases of tuberculosis be registered with the local or state health department.
The text sums up the nurse's value to discharged cases by saying she can give immense assistance at a most crucial period in the patient's life. The text says that by help and advice the nurse can often prevent a patient's relapse, or at least delay it for a long time. The text describes a Patient's Chart of cardboard, five by eight inches, whose reverse side shows spaces for recording visits.
