About this book
The Wave by Algernon Blackwood bears the subtitle An Egyptian Aftermath and describes a nightmare that has haunted its subject since childhood. The nightmare's wave is dun, almost tawny, and pauses while curled over in the act of toppling, threatening without falling. A conversation about the growing hero's welfare includes his mother's relief that the dream has left him and her recollection of being rather frightened by it.
Tommy apparently feels no particular call to any profession, and his future becomes a subject of discussion. The account describes Madame Jaretzka laughing and talking as before, while the incident continues happening over and over again in Tom's mind.
