About this book
The contents divide the account into sections before war and during war, listing mobilization, service in reserve and preparations and operations on the Somme. The account records the Distinguished Conduct Medal awarded to A. Jennett and G. Packard for rescuing Captain Todd under heavy fire beyond a barbed-wire entanglement. Lance-Corporal W. B. Owen received the same decoration for carrying a wounded officer from an enemy-occupied trench to a dressing station two miles away, mostly under fire.
Major-General Campbell's letter thanks all ranks of the 49th Divisional Artillery for their work while under his command. The Chairman's October report warns that, under present conditions, the Force would be incapable of marching should it be mobilized.
