About this book
The Woman and the Right to Vote is an address delivered by Hon. Rafael Palma, Senator for the Fourth District, in support of Bill No. 23 of the Senate. The speaker says to have seldom felt so proud of being a representative of the people as now, when given an opportunity to advocate a cause. The speaker calls the cause of female suffrage one sure to strike a sympathetic chord in every unprejudiced man.
The speaker recalls that in the past, not so very long ago, the same apprehension and fears were felt with regard to higher education for women. The speaker says the women were admitted to high schools and universities and made able to attain the degree of bachelor of arts and graduate in law, medicine, and other professions. The text says female suffrage is a reform demanded by the social conditions of our time (El sufragio femenino es una reforma exigida por las condiciones sociales de nuestro tiempo).
