About this book

The Works of Honoré de Balzac presents About Catherine de' Medici, Seraphita and other stories, with introductions by George Saintsbury. The contents list The Calvinist Martyr, The Ruggieri's Secret and The Two Dreams as parts of About Catherine de' Medici. A marriage account describes the ceremony between the Duc d'Orléans, the King's second son, and Catherine de' Medici, Duchess of Urbino.

The account of Gambara's music says the difficult fingering required immense skill and that Gambara must have worked at the music for years. The performance account describes constant complicated pedaling, a swaying body and perspiration as the player labours to produce a great crescendo with the feeble means available from the instrument.
